Duties
This position is located within the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Utilities and Power Operations, Engineering Division, Electrical Branch. The Capitol Power Plant operates around the clock, 7 days a week. Therefore, shift work will be required.
The High Voltage Electrician will:
-Perform the duties of a journeyman, experienced with industrial level 3-phase, 208 volt up to 13,800 volt electrical systems. Apply comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical principles, and systems operations, in accordance to NEC Code and OSHA Safety Standards.
-Have the required knowledge of various electrical equipment, types of wires, conduits, and other electrical supplies and devices, and the ability to integrate them into electrical systems and equipment to insure proper, and safe distribution.
-Be proficient in testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
-Install, repair, inspect, troubleshoot and maintain a variety of electrical equipment including control instruments, motors, control circuits, electronic relays, emergency generators, traveling cranes and hoists, VFDs and PLC, wiring systems, lights, starters, portable battery operated emergency lights, inter-communication telephone systems and other equipment associated with the operation of the natural gas and oil fired boilers, refrigeration plant, and the steam and chill water distribution tunnels.
-Plan, lay out and install complete electrical wiring jobs such as the installation of 480/277 or 208/120 volt distribution systems serving panel boards and their associated power and lighting wiring systems, motors, lights and starters. Maintain and operate 13,800 volt to 4,160 volt switchgear and transformer distribution systems, 13,800 volt and 4,160 volt motors and their controls.
-Will be assigned to a rotating shift that coordinates with the operation of 13,800 volt and 4,160 volt refrigeration motors and associated equipment. Perform scheduled inspection to determine if equipment is operating properly.
-Be responsible for observing and following all safety regulations with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Perform other duties as assigned.
