This position is located in the Government Accountability Office, Human Capital Office.. As a Human Resources Specialist (Benefits) you will be responsible for providing advisory services, support and assistance in the administration and coordination of the full range of functions and activities related to the employee benefits program.

Duties

As a Human Resources Specialist (Benefits), PT- 0201-II, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Provides advice and guidance to employees, management and other HR Specialists on the full range of functions and activities under the employee benefits program, including regular, early and disability retirements (CSRS, CSRS Offset, Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), and FERS); TSP; health, vision, and dental (FEDVIP); life insurance (FEGLI), Long Term Care (LTC), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), death in service cases, worker's compensation (OWCP).
  • Provides interpretations and explanations of the relationship of the Federal retirement and insurance programs to other retirement and insurance programs such as Social Security, Medicare, military and other Federal retirements, OWCP and
    private insurance providers.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the completion of benefits forms and makes coverage determinations for entitlements for employees, dependent family members, and ex-spouses.
  • Advises employees on retirement and develops retirement estimates utilizing on-line retirement calculations applications. Reviews files to ensure employees are assigned to the correct retirement system; analyzes civilian and military service for
    such issues as deposit requirements; and assists employees with deposit applications.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the BAND II level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower band level PT-I /PE-I/ AC-III or equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service, which has equipped the applicant with the skills and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is defined as experience providing advisory services, support and assistance in the administration and coordination of the full range of functions and activities related to the employee benefits program.
