Summary

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is urgently hiring Information Technology Specialist to support disaster recovery for Hurricane Helene and wildfires out west. Your work will aid recovery and economic stability in affected areas. We seek dedicated individuals who can start immediately and travel to disaster zones. Successful candidates will undergo accelerated onboarding to begin ASAP.

Duties

This position provides support in developing, implementing, operating and maintaining Information Technology (IT) equipment and systems.

As a/an Information Technology Specialist at the GS-2210-9/11, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provide assistance to customers with a variety of PCs and laptops utilizing Microsoft Operating Systems Windows 7 or later, and Microsoft Office 2010 or later applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prepare standard log-in scripts and establish network access protocols to enable customers to gain local or remote access.
  • Configure, install, upgrade, and monitor desktop and laptop hardware and software.
  • Participate in coordinating a wide area network with staff located at multiple locations,
  • Use computer systems and application suites to automate processes.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • Your primary residence is considered your official duty station.
  • If selected, employees work on an intermittent (on-call) work schedule. This means that employees are in a pay and duty status only when activated to respond to workload needs, especially in response to heightened disaster activity. When no longer needed, employees return to a non-pay status until the next event necessitates additional staff.
  • However, depending on the workload and/or level of disaster activity, your work schedule may be changed to full-time. Subsequently, if the workload decreases, your work schedule may be changed back to intermittent.
  • Mandatory Overtime: In order to respond quickly and efficiently to disaster survivors, substantial compensated overtime hours may be required while on assignment (up to seven days a week and twelve to fourteen hours a day).
  • A valid driver's license may be required.
  • This position is not included in a bargaining unit.
TRAVEL STATEMENT- You may be required to travel to a disaster site during increased disaster activity for extended periods with little or no advanced notice. If so, you may encounter hazardous working and/or living conditions; i.e., no water or electricity and/or minimal lodging facilities. Travel expenses are compensated based on SBA policy and Federal regulations.

Generally, time in non-pay status is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed below.

Experience:
To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. GS-09: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-11: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position.

In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:

*Implementing IT security requirements, policies, and procedures designed to protect the integrity and vulnerability of systems, networks, and data, and specifically including the protection of Personal Identifiable Information (PII), both internal and external to the organization; and

*Configuring and troubleshooting IT hardware, software, and networking technologies in a variety of local and/or remote locations; and

*Setting up, configuring and supporting workstations using Windows 10 in an enterprise WAN, supporting Microsoft cloud-based applications (Office 365, SharePoint or OneDrive), and designing and implementing wired and wireless networks which support multiple users.

Education

GS-09: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field or 2 full years of related progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree

GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field or 3 full years of related progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent combination of experience and education as indicated above.

A combination of experience and education as indicated above.

Additional information

Intermittent employees generally are not eligible for Federal benefits (life insurance, health insurance, retirement). However, if enrolled in benefits in the preceding appointment, those benefits will continue in this position provided there is no break in service of more than 3 days. Also, if you work or are expected to work at least 90 consecutive days and 130 hours per month, you will become eligible for health insurance benefits only. If you are in a non-pay status for 365 days your Federal health and/or life benefits will terminate.

How You Will Be Evaluated
