Duties

  • Develop and update security standards and policies for systems analysis, programming, maintenance, documentation, training, risk assessments, reviews, and contingency planning.
  • Evaluates proposed systems, networks, and software designs for security risks, recommends mitigation strategies, and resolves integration challenges during system implementation within the existing infrastructure.
  • Conducts risk assessments and researches security threats, vulnerabilities, and control techniques across various platforms, including networks, VPNs, remote access services, voice systems, and wireless networks.
  • Reviews and evaluates operating programs, practices, procedures and utilization of IT personnel, equipment, and telecommunications on an agency- wide basis.
  • Perform Risk Management Framework duties to include those of Information System Security Officer (ISSO)/Information System Security Manager (ISSM)

Qualifications

Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A)

Basic Requirements:
Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience:

you must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the PG-12 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  1. Develop; and provide technical implementation and review of information security policies to ensure appropriate cybersecurity policy development, and network security such as Zero Trust architecture design are implemented, tested and maintained across various computer network platforms.
  2. Utilize risk management principles to perform risk analysis; and communicating security plan vulnerabilities
  3. Evaluate and apply information assurance regulations, policies, and procedures to analyze and identify deficiencies in computer systems ability to safeguard classified data and information.

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Moderate Risk Public Trust background investigation. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background for a Moderate Risk Public Trust. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.

For a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
