Duties

Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff.  The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This paid internship* is in the Logistics and Support (L&S) Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The Interior Design Intern will work with a responsive and collaborative group dedicated to providing exemplary customer service.  This intern will have the opportunity to view the inner workings of the U.S. House of Representatives (USHOR) and learn about its operations.

* paid at an annual rate of $ 36,469 not to exceed 120 days

** The CAO standard business hours are 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship that will require in-person onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

·         Shadow team members performing their roles, including the Furniture Resource Management team, learning about the design, space planning, and logistics needed to support an office and attain both functionality and beauty.

·         Major duties include, but are not limited to, antique/unique (AU) furniture management and interior design services, project coordination, customer service and outreach, and research of historic furniture styles and records.

·         Attend office visit consultations, take meeting notes, and document existing conditions (including taking photos and measurements)

·         Development of furniture plans and renderings

·         Assist with the specification of furnishings (to include furniture, casework, carpet, upholstery, and drapery selections)

·         Generate professional and visually appealing schematic design presentations for virtual and in-person client meetings

·         Assist with the research and collection of data pertaining to the preservation and restoration of AU and historic furniture of the House

·         Assist in the logistical coordination of furniture delivery and repair.

Qualifications

Requirements:

·         Software proficiency: Autodesk AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite (for photo editing and presentation creation)

·         Observant and analytical, with strong attention to detail with a collaborative work style

·         Professional, clear, concise communication skills, both written and oral

·         Passion for design history and furniture conservation/preservation

·         Mobility to perform site visits and perform light lifting of furniture

·         Junior or Senior in an Interior Design degree program

·         Willingness and ability to walk frequently between buildings for in person meetings, and to physically inspect furniture.
