Summary

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM) provides the infrastructure and support that enables the U.S. Department of Labor to perform its mission. OASAM provides leadership and support for information technology, human resources management, procurement, business operations, safety and health, space management, civil rights, emergency management, security, budget, and performance.

Duties

The intern will support the Human Resources team and gain hands-on experience with the Department of Labor's mission and HR operations. The duties are similar at both grade levels. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist HR Specialists with applicant, employee, and supervisor inquiries
  • Research questions and gathering documentation to develop accurate responses
  • Use a computer to create and maintain documents, spreadsheets, and databases, etc.
  • Prepare, assemble, and route correspondence, reports, and forms
  • Ensure HR data accuracy; create charts, graphs, and other data visuals
  • Support basic personnel actions, including scanning documents into the e-OPF
  • Draft training announcements and support training event setup
  • Track registration, attendance, and training credit; process satisfaction surveys
  • Draft vacancy announcements and monitor progress
  • Prepare disciplinary letters and memos
  • Attend meetings to take notes, record discussion points, and track follow-up items

  • Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
  • Requires a trial period for the duration of the Internship.
  • Appointees must sign a DOL pathways Program Participant agreement.
  • Must be in good academic standing as defined by the agency as 2.0 GPA or higher.
  • This is a temporary student internship appointment not to exceed 120 days.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution at the time of appointment and must maintain such enrollment throughout the duration of the appointment.

ALL PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher AND maintain at least a half time or full-time course load.

Applicants for this position must meet the definition of a CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENT as outlined throughout this announcement. If you do not meet this definition, you will not be considered.

Applicants must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a diploma, associate, bachelor, master, professional, doctorate, vocational, technical degree, or certificate) on at least a half-time basis, at a qualifying educational institution and be in good academic standing as defined by the educational institution.

OR

Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized post-secondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program or service program such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Job Corps, and Climate Corps).

For GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

For GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Special Provisions/Interns with Previous Related Education or Experience. Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified.

Education

You must submit an academic transcript from your academic institution showing the date that you most recently completed the academic requirements described above. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.
