Duties

  • Manage a school cafeteria. Responsible for overseeing the preparation and service of food, the cleanliness of the cafeteria, the handling of receipts, and the ordering, receipt and usage of inventory.
  • Supervises cafeteria employees.  Interviews applicants and makes recommendations to supervisor on selection.  Approves/disapproves leave, recommends awards and/or discipline, develops and rates performance appraisals and trains and cross-trains subordinates. 
  • Keeps time cards on subordinates and submits them bi-weekly to office for payment.  Carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates.
  • Opens and closes the cafeteria, maintaining the keys appropriately.
  • Keeps records of foods and supplies used each day, posting to inventory cards immediately after serving.
  • Fills out daily activity sheets, on the computer, which are turned in to supervisor daily, with invoices attached.  Ensures that the activity sheets are approved by the principal or his/her alternate for signature before it is turned into supervisor.
  • Sells breakfast, lunch and milk tickets daily.  Works the register during serving time.  Responsible for all receipts in the cafeteria, checks cash register tape against actual cash, and attaches cash register tape to the daily activity sheet.
  • Reports equipment in need of servicing or repair in writing to the FSD. Requests cleaning supplies from supervisor.
  • Maintains complete stock cards on all food and supplies, including Government Donated Foods.  Keeps cards accurate and up-to-date at all times.  Logs all inventory into the computer and makes up new cards as needed.
  • Takes inventory at the end of each month, including December and the beginning and end of the school year.  Prepares an equipment inventory at the end of the school year.
  • Submits orders for future food and supply requirements to supervisor weekly. (Produce on Friday, all other foods on Tuesday)
  • Checks on all food and supplies received and makes sure it is put away
  • Records temperature of all refrigeration equipment twice daily.  Checks to see that all food is stored properly at the end of each day.
  • Draws up bank deposit daily.  Takes the deposits to the bank daily.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Three years of progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to : 1) Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions; 2) Plan and organize work; and 3) Communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Experience in a food service activity is desirable.

OR

Education:  Four year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor¿s degree.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the qualifications above.

Ability to supervise people and manage a service activity.  Ability to ensure that safety and health regulations are followed.  Must have a general understanding of food preparation in order to ensure cooking and baking functions are operable in the absence of the cook or baker.  Ability to perform basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and be able to draw up a bank deposit.  Must have the knowledge of acceptable cash handling procedures.  Must maintain a current Food Sanitation Training Certificate and health card.  Must be computer literate.
