Summary
The incumbent performs heavy physical labor involving facility and grounds maintenance.
Duties
- Performs a variety of tasks requiring heavy physical effort.
- Uses heavy power mowers, adjust blades, and cleans and oils mowers; cuts trees, using ax or chain saw.
- Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact and does grading and sloping.
- Breaks up pavement with jackhammer, mixes and pours concrete.
- Runs hand and powered lawnmowers.
- May shovel snow sand or dirt from sidewalks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation
- Must possess or be able to obtain a fork lift driver's license, first aid, and CPR certifications within the first 60 days of employment
- Must be able to obtain a Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization (SIOTO) certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Work indoors may expose the worker to drafts, noise, dust and dirt, and require standing on concrete floors for long periods. Special care is required to avoid serious injuries. Outdoor work is performed in all kinds of weather
- Outdoor work is performed in all kinds of weather. May be required to wear issued protective gear such as safety gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, boots, etc.
Qualifications
Skill and knowledge to operate and control riding mowers on slopes which requires constant attention to working space and environment. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components. Safely operates equipment around buildings, walls, trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, trenches, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles. Ability to operate controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift/lower, engage/disengage components or attached devices.
Knowledge of safe and efficient operating techniques of various large equipment and power tools: Operates a variety of other power equipment to include, but not limited to: posthole diggers, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, mowers, box trucks with lift gate, etc. Knowledge and skill using hand tools and other equipment such as: shovels, rakes, hammers, bars, saws, axes, loppers, wrenches, brushes, brooms, ladders, banding equipment, and pallet jacks.
