Summary

Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is located in the Fleet and Family Readiness Division at Navy Region Northwest. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks requiring moderately heavy physical effort.

Duties

  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes or cartons by hand, hand-truck, or dolly. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears. Stacks boxes and cartons where directed.
  • Landscaping duties such as mowing, edging, leaf blowing.
  • Minor maintenance duties to be performed as directed.
  • Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake.
  • Runs hand and powered lawnmowers.
  • Clears small trees and bushes using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper.
  • Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as directed.
  • May shovel snow, sand or dirt from sidewalks.
  • Collects and empties garbage cans, burns garbage and trash.
  • Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, and weekends as per trip schedule.
  • Work may be performed in extreme weather conditions ranging from long-term exposure to heat and sun to sub-freezing temperatures and wind. Work environment may include rocky steep ice covered terrain and work on, in or near water.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment to work safely with heavy tools.
  • Ability to provide continual care and attention both to avoid accidents and to finish work properly.
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
