Summary

These permanent full-time Logistics Management Specialists positions support of the fire suppression activities with the Southwest Region, Branch of Wildland Fire Management, Duty Station: Durango, Colorado & Taos, New Mexico and will be filled from Standard PD Number: FDI0213

ALL U.S. CITIZENS. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: These positions will be filled using Direct Hire Authority for this occupation. CTAP and ICTAP candidates in the local commuting area.

Duties

  • Establishes priorities, allocates resources and supervises the mobilization, demobilizations and reassignment of wildland fire suppression resources.
  • Monitors incident and administrative intelligence to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of dispatch center decisions.
  • Provide leadership in support and coordination in developing and implementing the expanded dispatch organization.
  • Conducts workload analysis and determines the level of support from each Bureau for operation and staffing costs.
  • Develops or modifies dispatcher related training and serves as a subject matter expert during training course development.
  • Provides technical and operational direction to employees on day-to-day operations.
  • Plans work to be accomplished, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0346: Logistics Management Series)

GS-9: 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: performing lead wildland fire dispatch duties such as: performing and directing others in wildland fire dispatch office functions; providing incident logistical support information, and making recommendations for efficient use of available resources; and determining appropriate resource responses to incidents.
OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related., if related to this position. (Note: Applicants who select this response must provide transcripts as verification of their education).
OR
A combination of specialized experience and related graduate education when combined meets the total requirements for the position. To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This is a MANDATORY qualification prerequisite to qualify for this position. Applicant must have possessed the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
  • Prior Wildland Firefighting Experience: "This is an administrative position in an organization having a firefighting mission, and is clearly in an established career path. Prior firefighting experience, as gained by substantial service in a primary firefighter position or equivalent experience outside the Federal government is a MANDATORY PREREQUISITE."

This position has been designated as an Incidental Operator under the Indian Affairs Motor Vehicle Safety Program and requires the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle in order to properly carry out his/her assigned duties but whose principal duties are not operating a motor vehicle and his/her position is not classified as a motor vehicle operator. The incumbent will be required initially and annually to acknowledge and certify possession of a valid state driver's license.
