Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose for this position is to assist other workers by performing a variety of simple manual labor tasks involving general construction and demolition. Incumbent is assigned to the Fiddler's Cove Marina and RV Park.

Duties

  • Assists skilled crafts and trades staff in the performance of general construction and demolition tasks by performing manual labor tasks such as obtaining tools, materials and equipment; holds, moves, rearranges, lifts, carries and stacks items and objects.
  • Performs a variety of manual labor tasks such as digging and grading ditches and trenches with pick and shovel; fills and levels in holes in walls; sets forms, mixes and pours concrete.
  • Paints a variety of simple interior items, such as shelves, counter and similar items. Uses pre-mixed paints in accomplishment of assignments. Paints the surfaces according to direction. Cleans and maintains brushes and painting equipment.
  • Performs minor and simple carpentry tasks to such items as doors, platforms, bins, pallets, etc. Uses shop tools such as hammers, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers and power tools.
  • Assists in the building of shelves, walls, bins, cabinets, installing or repairing of any wood substitute structures as required and moving, holding and positioning building materials.
  • Removes all debris from work areas. Ensures all tools and equipment are put away properly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Some experience relating to construction is helpful.
  • Knowledge and skill to use hand tools and equipment designed for construction and/or demolition.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
