TOUR OF DUTY: Monday - Friday 6AM - 2:30PM
Tour of duty may include holidays and weekends on a regular and recurring basis. Rotating shift work may also be required at management’s discretion.

MAJOR DUTIES:
Supervisory Responsibilities 40%
The incumbent oversees, manages and directs shop personnel performing work at the WG-12 or lower level. The incumbent serves as a working supervisor, working alongside subordinates performing the same work as the subordinates and provides advice to the Facilities Manager’s team on all matters affecting facilities maintenance productivity, efficiency and management.
Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assigns duties and evaluates performance. Manages the organizational unit’s budget and workload. Develops performance requirements for subordinates and ensures a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolves complaints and grievances.
Provides leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. Assigns work to employees directly and through work leaders and provides technical direction and/or assistance in accomplishing the work. Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems and determines causes. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems.
Plans and established leave schedules. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsels employees on performance, sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates’ work performance. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommends employees for promotion or reassignments. Counsels employees on problems and adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Initiates proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed.
The incumbent oversees the LBG Machine shop intern program. This includes reviewing applications, selecting candidates, ensuring interns receive proper training and are equipped with appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
Operates a personal computer to perform the administrative work of the division such as approving time and attendance, maintaining directories and logs and preparing correspondence and memoranda. Initiates and closes out work orders used to document all work activities.
Operations of Conventional Machine Tools 30%
Selects proper electric or gas welding rods or electrodes to meet specifications. Repairs, modifies and fabricates ornamental fixtures and a variety of metal and alloy components and equipment throughout the Library Buildings and Grounds.
Directs machinists on how to properly replace and repair damaged structural and mechanical parts to equipment such as motors, relay switches and gearboxes, carburetors, tires, brakes, bearings, blades, drive shafts, overhead reset breakers, etc. on various apparatuses.
Reviews machine layouts of work from blueprints, specifications, and work orders. Examines the repairs made by machinist to ensure they meet tolerance, strength, and other trade standards.
Operations of Complex Computerized Automated Security Equipment (30%)
Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs low and medium voltage wiring associated with electronically controlled door hardware including high speed garage doors, magnetic security locks, secured storage vault locks, garage door, gate arms, card access reader systems, automatic door openers/actuators and program controls tied thru security and fire alarm systems. Security and door control networks are both wireless and wired systems.
Provides technical support to engineers and other Superintendent’s office staff in solving problems/breakdowns found in test programs. Provides expertise on the latest and most technologically complex electronic systems. Troubleshoots the cause of operational problems on novel or improved systems when technical specifications are inadequate. Identifies problems in designs and guidelines.
Reviews verbal instructions, work orders, blueprints, schematics, maintenance schedules and inspection schedules. Examines the repairs made by electronics mechanics to ensure they meet safety and ADA requirements. Works closely engineers and other Superintendent’s office staff to resolve complex problems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

SCREEN-OUT: Supervises machinists and electronics mechanics in accomplishing work operations in the Machining Section. Plans the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a day-to-day, project-by-project or month-to-month basis; adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors.
WS-12:
1. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical directions and assistance in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes; observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassigns personnel within the group supervised, and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules; inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements; and reports possible or actual work delays to the supervisor.
