Duties
Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 4PM
As General Supervisor, the incumbent supervises the trades, crafts, and labor functions of construction, renovation, installation, maintenance, repair and tenant fit-out projects involving decorative painting/plaster, sheet metal, wood crafting, masonry, Machine Sections and gardening and grounds.
MAJOR DUTIES:
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBLITIES 100%
Through subordinate supervisors, oversee the preparation of cost estimates from drawings, blueprints or site inspections for proposed or anticipated construction projects and alterations. Maintains computerized workorders, logbooks, material inventories, cost estimates, material take offs, inventory sheets, blueprints, and drawings. Oversees the requisition of supplies, materials, and tools.
Plans, schedules, and oversee the work operations of subordinate shop supervisors and workers on a quarterly and longer-term basis. Recommends the use of contractors to accomplish maintenance work that cannot be undertaken by the in-house workforce.
Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems (e.g., excessive costs, low productivity, workload imbalance, and acquisition or development of specialized tools, etc.), and determines causes. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems. Considers and acts on recommendations regarding acquisition of specialized equipment and tools. Resolves staffing, and work operations problems. Establishes or revises standard operating procedures for the work operation.
Plans and establish Branch leave schedules. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsel employees on performance, set performance standards, and make formal appraisals of subordinates' work performance. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommend promotion or reassignment of employees. Counsel employees on problems and takes action on formal complaints. Acts on proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed. Promotes positive work environment and the participation of employees in such programs as the suggestion program. Maintains production reports and records.

Trains team’s responsible contact person (RCP) communications and requirements. Acts as AOC point of contact during evacuations at either the incident command center or at the jurisdiction command center. Develops and reviews RCP scheduling duties, act as RCP during major weather events or ensure RCP coverage is establish, communicates and coordinates emergency response and determines causes. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems.
Considers and acts on recommendations regarding the acquisition of specialized equipment and tools. Resolves staffing and work operations problems. Establishes or revises standard operating procedures for the work operation.
Serves on communities of practice within the umbrella of operations and maintenance. Develops Best Management Practices for recurring, preventative, service, corrective, predictive, and reliability-based maintenance. Manages oversight and is accountable for work completion, reporting and presenting results.
Reviews, references, and enforces employees and supervisors to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Investigates grievances and complaints, resolving them informally, and notifying supervisors of those of sufficient importance or seriousness; initiating recommendations for the selection, promotion, demotion, transfer and separation of employees; advising and counseling workers on how to improve their performance and explaining new work techniques; encouraging and appraising beneficial suggestions from subordinates; maintaining work reports and records; and assisting supervisors in planning overall leave schedules. Evaluates temporary promotions in the absence of managers of service units.
Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to interact with AOC staff, senior staff, officials from other agencies and the general public. Demonstrates skill in developing and delivering oral and written presentations as well as making recommendations on management issues in concise and convincing language.
