Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

Leads a crew of maintenance helpers, maintenance workers, laborers and custodians while taking directon from the supervisor and ensuring that work is carried out in compliance with facility standard procedures.

Duties

Performs work in at least two of the following trades in the maintenance and repair of
grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities:

Plumbing: Makes plumbing repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, resealing, replacing defective parts or units of utility, supply, and disposal systems, such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile, damaged or broken pipe, leaky faucets, and stopped up drains. Installs water heaters, garbage disposal units, faucets, and sinks.

Carpentry: Measures, cuts, and constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolds, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, sheathing, and roof decking.

Painting: Performs standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying, by the use of coating materials that are prepared according to specific directions, and by the application of coating techniques that ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected, and free from drips and runs.

Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations. Operates vehicles to transport tools and materials to work site.

Incumbent serves as a leader to maintenance helpers, maintenance workers, laborers and custodians.

Utilize reports and work requests to determine work assignments.

Inspects assigned areas on a continual basis. Monitors these areas for problems, missing, malfunctioning or damaged items. Responsible for noting any deficiencies and promptly reporting them to the supervisor which are to be included on the work request log.

Demonstrates proper work methods, inspects work in progress and completion to ensure that all instruction, procedures and deadlines have been met. Reports the status of work in progress and any causes for delay to the supervisor.

Assists in determining what supplies, materials and equipment will be needed and ensures items are available when required. Ensures equipment is properly maintained, stored and accounted for.

Assists in the training of safety, fire prevention, MSDS and environment/industrial hygiene requirements. Ensures personnel are furnished with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and are instructed on proper use.

Investigates and prepares reports for staff mishaps/accients. Fowards completed package to the immediate supervisor in a timely manner.

Performs other related duties as required.

  • Must be able to physically be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform work independently and make decisions based on personal knowledge and experience.

Qualifications

Two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with management, staff and patrons.

Possession of a valid state driver's license.
