The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

Duties

This position is located in the Furnishings Department, Office of Logistics & Support (L&S), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The purpose of the Office of L&S is to provide important logistical services to the entire House community, including building, repairing, moving, setting up, and breaking down furniture; facilitating office moves; and managing all accountable equipment assets within the House. The purpose of the Furnishings Department is to build and repair furniture and install carpet and draperies in the House offices. Within the Furnishings Department, the Cabinet Shop is responsible for new construction of cabinetry and furniture and for repairing existing furniture in the offices of Members, Committees, Leadership, and support staff. This position serves as the Master Cabinet Maker.

This position requires the expert use of tools and knowledge to build the most complex cabinetry and furniture. Key responsibilities include:

Supporting the daily operations of the L&S/Furnishings Cabinet Shop, furniture repair and construction, service calls, shop upkeep, safety, customer service and employee development. 

Primary Duties: 

  • Build, repair and service furniture
  • Service and repair machine tools
  • Work independently with the skills to design, engineer and construct furniture from a thumb nail sketch
  • Collaborate with and develop working relationships benefitting The Cabinet Shop, CAO and the entire campus client base
  • Use a broad base of skills to service in office repairs and requests
  • Perform other official duties as assigned 

This position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • 10 years of experience in cabinet making
  • Trade related training in areas of individual interest
  • A portfolio of work ready to present 
  • CNC programming and design experience desired 

Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing a criminal history records check (or other applicable security clearance) and a pre-employment drug-test (pre-identified position only)
