This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC), Clinical Services Division, Medical Services Unit (MSU). The MSU Chief reports directly to the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Clinical Services. This is a supervisory position.
The United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps Officers, civil service staff and contractors comprise the healthcare professional staff working together to provide quality healthcare services. The IHSC serves as the health authority for ICE. IHSC has a multi-sector, multidisciplinary workforce of more than 1,700 employees, including U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) commissioned officers, federal civil servants, and contract staff. The IHSC provides on-site direct patient care to ICE detainees at 19 detention facilities throughout the country and manages the provision of off-site medical care for detainees housed in approximately 240 additional Intergovernmental Service Agreement (IGSA) facilities. The ICE detainee population is approximately 34,000 detainees on a daily basis, with an average length of stay of approximately 30 days, and over 400,000 detainees annually. The IHSC also provides medical support during ICE enforcement operations in the air, on the ground and at sea.
The MSU ensures the provision of medical, dental, and pharmacy services to non-citizens in ICE custody. They supervise three regional clinical directors (RCD), the chief advanced practice provider, the chief dentist, the chief pharmacist, and the Chief Psychiatrist. The components of the MSU collaborate to address medical care mission needs.
