Summary

The incumbent serves as Producer and Multimedia Specialist in the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), Voice of America (VOA), Africa Division. The incumbent coordinates the production of television programming and is responsible for the flawless on air execution of live Amharic television programs, including the production of high quality packages. The incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of all production requirements with show editors and technical staff.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Oversees pre-production, production and post-production tasks to produce live and recorded video programming.

Creates line-ups, rundowns and time segments.

Writes and edits stories for on-camera packages.

Edits news and feature packages.

Creates and maintains a database of contacts in order to plan, coordinate and/or advise on program participation.

Keeps abreast of the media climate in the target region to ensure the competitiveness of programming in the marketplace.

Qualifications

Screen out factor: Applicant must have fluency in both English and Amharic languages that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-11 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience that is typically in or related to line-producing and editing professional, high-quality television and radio news programming content covering regional and international events on a variety of platforms, i.e., television, radio, web-based and social media platforms for Amharic speaking African audiences.
  • Experience with journalistic principles and techniques.
  • Experience with television and radio broadcasting principles and practices.
  • Experience with all phases of television and radio production, programming and editing.
  • Experience and skill in producing programming content for both conventional as well as web- based and social media platforms.
  • Experience covering a variety of topics concerning African history and its Amharic speaking target audience(s), their lifestyles, culture, national history, customs, government institutions and policies; an awareness of political, economic, and social developments in the region.
