Knowledge of museum, curation, and collections management requirements under cultural resource laws to develop program strategies that will appropriately apply principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to museum collections.
Knowledge of the museum records keeping process in order to assure professional accessioning, de-accessioning, cataloging, inventory and tracking of objects through the processing, storage, treatment, and exhibit phases of handling to ensure accountability and preservation of collections.
Ability to communicate in writing used to prepare and review planning documents; maintain archival documentation; update and maintain policy, manuals, and guidelines; and prepare materials used in historical interpretation.
Skill in negotiating, developing, and maintaining agreements and working relationships under sensitive, controversial, and, sometimes, hostile conditions.
Knowledge of research techniques and methods in the areas of history, ethnology, and oral history in order to conduct primary research aimed toward expanding the existing knowledge based in support of National collection, preservation, research needs.
