BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,
Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs,
Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the
Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the
National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
GS-4 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possession of an associate's degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program
GS-5 Basic Requirements: applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience;
OR
- Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one (1) full year of professional nursing experience:
- providing nursing care for patients, utilizing the nursing process; assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care; performing assignments in the field of clinical nursing which provide specialized knowledge and skills in the application of principles, techniques and procedures to the nursing care of patients
GS-7 - Basic Requirements:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-policies/#url=General-Policies);
OR
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and one full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level):
- providing professional nursing care to patients; reviewing medical records; administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures
OR
- Possession of a diploma or associate degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and two full years of Professional Nursing experience:
- application of nursing care principles; develops individualized patient care plans or participates in patient care planning which involves the assessment and evaluation of patient needs; a determination of the nursing procedures and practices to be included; and periodic evaluation of plans to insure that intended results are being achieved; ability to recognize and implements proper action in response to changes in patient medical condition
OR
- Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
GS-9 - Basic Requirements:
- Possession of a Master's degree in professional nursing;
OR
- Possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one full year of Professional Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 or above):
- independent assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive nursing care for a variety of acutely ill patients experience as a Team leader; provides guidance, direction and training to ancillary nursing, and other personnel
The nurse will progressively assume responsibilities as assigned in the Outpatient department, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.
