Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Nursing Assistants to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This Announcement will be used to fill a vacancy within the Chemical School, 3rd Brigrade on Fort Leoanrd Wood.

Duties

  • Measure and record blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight.
  • Screen patients and document screening notes, vital sign measurements, and other patient data in various electronic medical record systems.
  • Arrange supply cupboards; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Assist in the dissemination of patient education literature.
  • Maintain clean, safe, orderly environment.
  • Apply knowledge of infection control measures and aseptic techniques.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
  • Obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; and ability to initiate/participate in resuscitative efforts and other emergency measures.
  • The work requires the employee to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • IAW OPORD 13-28 (Health Care Personnel Criminal Record Checks) - USAMEDCOM: All health care personnel with frequent and regular contact with persons under the age of 18 will be required to complete the Army Criminal Background Check (CBC).
  • Derogatory responses will be reviewed by MEDCOM Process Review Board (PRB) to determine suitability for employment. Employees must obtain and maintain favorable results from a criminal history background check as a condition of employment.
  • Duty hours are subject to adjustment, i.e., may include early morning and late night hours, if duty location is in support of training.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing.
  • Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical.
  • Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) requiring participation in random drug testing.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • Employee will possess a valid driver’s license, and fulfill requirements for driving a military vehicle, as needed.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and /or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience that demonstrates my ability to (or) that has provided me with familiarity with nonprofessional nursing care, such as performing work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility AND I have at least six months of Specialized Experience which is equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing personal nursing care, such as transporting patients; maintaining patient medical records; and obtaining vital signs or specimens from patients.

Education
: Two year degree program of study above the high school level. in an accredited community college, junior college, college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. (Note: You MUST provide a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-3). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
