JOB TITLE:  Senior Sales Associate

BUSINESS TITLE:  Operations Associate (Foster Custom Shop/Framing)

INTRODUCTION: The position is located within Foster Framing/Arts and Crafts, Retail Operations Section, Business Operations Branch, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Division, Camp S. D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan. This is a mixed position performing administrative and support work for the supervisor in managing the operation of Arts and Crafts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides assistance and support to the management in managing the daily operations of Foster Framing/Arts and Crafts. Assumes full responsibility for retail operations of the facility in absence of management. Responsible for meeting personal and facilities sales goals. Requisitions merchandise and ensures maintenance of adequate stock levels, proper display, price marketing, and sales merchandise.  Advises on improvements to display stocking, pricing, and inventory of merchandise.

Maintains appropriate documents pertaining to security of cash, fixed assets, and merchandise inventory.  Maintains combination to safe and issues change funds. Performs daily reporting operations to the Shared Services Center Japan and daily/weekly sales and patron counts to the Program Manager. Provides the program manager with data to evaluate work progress and results and makes operational decisions. Ensures that work is accomplished in a timely manner.

Reviews and directs the work of employees who are engaged in the sorting, marking, pricing, and displaying of merchandise, keeping records thereof.  Also reviews and directs the work of employees to ensure facility cleanliness, organization, and safety. Oversees and enforces safety policies within the facility. May be required to update or correct Standard Operating Procedures or safety policies as needed by direction of the Program Manager or the Safety Director.

Prepares appropriate reports concerning sales activities, incidents, and significant occurrences during tour of duty.  Serves as the focal point for communicating the policies and objectives of management to employees when and where required. Conducts inventories as required.

Offers assistance and suggestive selling advice as the customer progresses throughout their shopping experience. Relays customer comments and concerns to management. Identifies opportunities to produce add-on sales through suggestive and consultative selling. Ensures all sale, ad, and promotional items are signed and placed according to brand standards. Works with management to achieve daily and weekly sales goals. Responsible for the scheduling of product delivery due dates for each project accepted to ensure that all projects are completed on time and are high quality.

Understands and operates within all service policies and exercises an ¿I can do that¿ mentality when a customer problem occurs. Follows up with customers to ensure their problems were resolved. May handle customer special orders and merchandise requests.

Assists management in the planning and execution of all sales programs, promotions, and other events where merchandise is involved. Understands and articulates programs and promotions. Encourages team members to identify opportunities to resolve customer problems and concerns before they happen. Communicates any outstanding problem resolution issues with management.

Identifies and reduces all risks of loss and/or theft. Actively engages in organizational training opportunities that develop personal and professional skills related to time management, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, career planning, public speaking, and small group leadership. Participates in all corporate-led training programs and works with management to set training goals and manage training compliance, licenses, and certifications and position-based learning plans.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work area is usually adequately lighted, sometimes noisy and dusty. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, etc., and injury from engraving plaques and similar merchandise. Required to wear protective gears when using equipment.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

  1. A minimum of one year experience in responsible clerical and administrative support work in retail business to demonstrate knowledge of retail operations, procedures, and methods.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Ability to learn organization's functions and procedures, interpret and apply specific procedural guides such as instructions, manuals, established policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation to compose properly formatted correspondence, as well as knowledge of record retention.
  3.  Knowledge of basic accounting and cash handling, and ability to complete Cash Handling Training Course before handling fund and Refresher Course once per year.
  4. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and be able to manage multiple and non-routine tasks and be flexible to changing requirements.
  5. Proficient in operating Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and standard office equipment (i.e. typewriters, copiers and fax machines).
  6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  7. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekend and evening. 
  8. Able to work at various MCCS Arts and Crafts locations around Okinawa based on the staffing needs of each facility.
  9. Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, reaching, lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs. independently
