The Officer's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Clarification from the agency
This announcement is open to non-former Retirees and former Secret Service Retirees of the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) who are eligible for re-employment as a federal annuitant; and Federal Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) eligibles in the commuting area.
Duties
During the course of working in the Office of Protective Operations, Officers (Uniformed Division) carry out assignments in protection. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area, and other USSS protected locations.
- Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, foreign heads of state/government missions, and other USSS protectees.
- Conducting surveillance, counter surveillance, and providing vehicle security throughout the United States.
- Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Dual Compensation Off-Set Waiver For Officer (Uniformed Division) Approved For Rehires
- Work Full-Time
- Maximum age limit (under 60 at the time of appointment)
- Hired with the OPM approved salary off-set waiver granted to the Secret Service, annuitants can earn their full salary and their full annuity without penalty.
- Receive Overtime
- Earn Annual Leave and Sick Leave
- Annuitants receiving a dual comp waiver are not eligible to contribute to TSP or make contributions to retirement.
- This position is a term non-status appointment in the competitive service for retired federal employees that may not exceed four (4) years.
- The current OPM Dual Comp Waiver expires December 31, 2024. If is not renewed, individuals appointed before December 31, 2024, may continue until their not-to-exceed date is reached with their salaries offset.
This Officer (Uniformed Division) position starts at a base salary of $55,157 (LE-01 step 1) to $99,976 (LE-01 step 07). Highest Previous Rate (HPR) will not be offered beyond the LE-01 step 7 level.

- Undergo occasional domestic and foreign travel.
- Possess a valid U.S. state motor vehicle operator's license and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
- Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
- Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
- Successfully complete a Mixed Basic or Reintegration Training Course as applicable.
- Work long and irregular hours including holidays, weekends and evenings, and shift work.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

General Medical Requirements:
As determined by the Office of Personnel Management, the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily. Since the duties of this position are exacting and involve the responsibility for the safety of others under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or that would cause the individual to be a hazard to himself/herself or to others is disqualifying. There are also specific medical requirements for this position, and any chronic disease or condition affecting the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, digestive, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, genitourinary, and other systems that would impair full performance of the duties of the position may also be disqualifying.
