Summary

The purpose of the position of the position is to serve as Patient Services Assistant for the Enrollment and Eligibility Unit of the Health Administration Service (HAS) at the Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC). The OVAMC currently consist of a medical center, two (2) outpatient clinics, and four (4) community-based outpatient clinics. The scope of services encompasses a comprehensive range of clinical subspecialties.

Duties

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TOO :

  • Determines eligibility/entitlement of all applicants using various methods, systems, and programs.
  • Routinely monitors enrollment reports for updates and changes on Veteran eligibility.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the services available at the Facility.
  • Uses good and dependable judgment to analyze and evaluate situations to ensure that Former Service Members welfare is protected effectively and properly
  • Has a good rapport with internal and external customers and other stakeholders.
  • Addresses with care the needs of patients, Veterans, and professional staff.
  • Conducts Interviews with applicants for medical benefits in person and over the phone.
  • Communicates with Health Eligibility Center (HEC) for purposes of resolving issues relative to eligibility determination.
  • Communicates to former Service Member of eligibility/ineligibility status and advises on the process to follow.
  • Enters information into System of Records that is pertinent to make to make eligibility determinations
  • Schedules the initial Primary Care appointment accurately (Patient Preference, Mission Act).
  • Completes the VHIC process for eligible and enrolled Veterans
  • Explores all possibilities on behalf of the Former Service Member before making an ineligible determination (Hardship, Catastrophic disability, MST, MH.
  • Uses good and dependable judgment to analyze and evaluate situations to ensure that Former Service Members welfare is protected effectively and properly.
  • Able to relate and coordinate with individuals of all socioeconomic and education levels.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of medical center procedures, regulations, physical layout, staff, and functions.
  • Ensures that information entered the system is accurate.
  • Works independently in routine duties of the position in a day to day.


Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:00am to 4:30pm)

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary; however, there will be some periods of walking, bending, lifting and carrying of medical records frequently required. Occasionally Veterans may be angry and potentially violent
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Determines eligibility/entitlement of all applicants using various methods, systems, and programs. receives visitors, screens telephone calls and determines, by nature of the inquiries, which are to be referred to other staff members. Conducts Interviews with applicants for medical benefits in person and over the phone Has a good rapport with internal and external customers and other stakeholders Processes incoming and outgoing mail. Enters information into System of Records

This position requires a typing requirement of 40 words per minute
