Principal Systems Engineer/ Senior Systems Engineer #208 Job in Washington DC, DC

Required Work Experience

• Senior:  GED with 8-10 years of relevant work experience; Bachelor's 5-8 years of relevant work experience; Master's with 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
• Principal: GED with 11-15 years of relevant work experience; Bachelor's 8-11 years of relevant work experience; Master's with 6-8 years of relevant work experience.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

• Knowledge of programming languages, data structures, utilities, and software packages for software development.
• Knowledge of SDLC methodology including Agile.
• Working knowledge of the principles of Agile development methodologies.
• Working knowledge of running applications in a containerized environment.
• Working knowledge of deploying and securing application in a Cloud provider.
• Working knowledge of unit testing and continuous integration.
• Working knowledge of web and mobile frameworks and User Interface toolkits.
• Working knowledge of source code control and versioning systems.
• Knowledge of diagramming, flow charting and detailed analysis and program documentation.

Desired Qualifications

Senior Systems Engineer                                                                                           

• 5+ years of proficiency experience with Splunk systems administration.
• Experience in a Splunk administration role.
• Demonstrated experience in application interface development using REST APIs.
• Demonstrated experience with a scripting languages like Ansible, Python, and JavaScript.

Principal Systems Engineer                                                                                         

• 8+ years of expert-level experience in Splunk systems administration.
• Expert-level experience in a Splunk administration role.
• Demonstrated experience in application interface development using REST APIs.
• Demonstrated experience with a scripting language like Ansible, Python, and JavaScript.

Working Conditions

• This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. 
• The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday, or while the Senate is in session. As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Security Clearance

• This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.
