Summary

About the Position: This is a full-time faculty position as provided under Title 10 USC 7371. Initial appointment may be up to three years, the first of which may be a trial period. Appointment may be renewed in one- to five-year increments thereafter. Academic rank and salary will be based on academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments.

Duties

  • Teach and facilitate seminar dialogue in the U.S. Army War College (USAWC ) core course in Strategic Leadership (SL).
  • Teach and facilitate seminar dialogue the USAWC core course in Defense Management (DM). The DM course introduces Department of Defense systems and processes required to generate and prepare military forces for the nation.
  • Participate in and contribute to faculty development programs that prepare all DCLM faculty to facilitate instruction in the Strategic Leadership and/or Defense Management courses.
  • Design and teach elective courses related to the science or application of leadership and management, particularly at the strategic level.
  • Contribute to specialized instruction in either strategic leadership or defense management concentration programs. These specialized programs provide more tailored educational experiences for USAWC students.
  • Engage in research and publishable scholarship that advances knowledge in fields relevant to the Army War College curriculum and/or to leadership development in the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Operate as a contributing member of a faculty teaching team to integrate core and elective courses across the academic program.
  • Contribute to a professional, collegial, and inclusive department climate that prioritizes student development.
  • Contribute to DCLM and the Army War College missions by fulfilling other faculty duties as required.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Appointment may be extended in one- to five-year increments thereafter. Qualification Requirements:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated by a panel of subject matter experts on the following:

  1. Relevant theoretical and practical experience in the science and practice of effective leadership and the development of others for such duties.
  2. An established record of superlative teaching at the graduate level.
  3. Record of scholarly research and publication-or evidence of potential for such research and publication-in areas relevant to the curriculum, to include management, organizational theory, systems and processes; management strategy; business administration; industrial/organizational psychology; sociology; public policy; public administration; ethics; decision science; data science; data analytics; artificial intelligence; philosophy; and/or economics.
  4. The ability to prepare, teach, and lecture on subjects related to core and elective offerings.
  5. The ability to conceptualize, design, and write lesson plans that support core and elective offerings.
  6. Refined oral and written communication skills to both present and provide feedback to others, including the ability to serve as a student advisor for graduate-level research projects.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively on a teaching team and/or with colleagues oriented on similar goals.
  8. Possess an advanced degree in a relevant field. A Ph.D. or equivalent research or practical degree (DBA) is strongly preferred. Related fields typically include management; organizational theory, systems and processes; management strategy; business administration; industrial/organizational psychology; sociology; public policy; public administration; ethics; decision science; data science; data analytics; artificial intelligence; philosophy; and/or economics. Extensive experience in and with governmental or business systems and processes can substitute for or significantly enhance this qualification.

How You Will Be Evaluated: Once the announcement has closed, a selection committee will review and screen application packages (résumé, supporting documents, and responses to the questionnaire).
