Duties

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Adaptive Reconditioning duties comprise 75% of incumbent's time and include but are not limited to:

  • Researches and identifies adaptive reconditioning events and other opportunities offered by Federal, State, local community, and non-profit organizations and agencies.
  • Analyzes and evaluates, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of program operations, establishing goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates internal and external adaptive recreation activities in respective Region for local enrollees.
  • Promotes Navy Wounded Warrior Adaptive Athletics program to local enrollees and connect those interested with HQ Adaptive Athletics staff.
  • Assists NWW HQ Adaptive Sports staff with management and operations of its adaptive sports and reconditioning programs and activities for recovering Service Members to improve the recovery and quality of life as the participants adjust to their "new normal".
  • Assists in coordinating adaptive sports and reconditioning programs according to guidelines, standards of practice and professional code of conduct and ethics developed by Armed Forces Services Corporation at multiple installations throughout the US.
  • Assists in providing effective and efficient adaptive sports and reconditioning programs for Recovering Service Members (RSMs) enrolled into the program.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with senior military and community leadership as well as activity participants.
  • Communicates with NWW HQ Marketing and Strategic Communications Specialist to raise awareness of program, to include highlighting local activities on a monthly and ad hoc basis.
  • Develops, manages and updates as necessary, event and outreach calendar.
  • Coordinates internally within N9 (MWR, FFR, etc.) and externally to plan and execute a wide variety of opportunities to enhance enrollees' recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration.
  • Establishes and monitors multiple repositories for enrollees to include documentation in the NWW module within the Total Workforce Management System (TWMS). Manages electronic and hard copies as necessary for the successful planning and execution of adaptive sports/recreation events.
  • Serves as travel point of contact for the region enrollees participating in adaptive/recreation events to include travel processes and registration of participants.
Community Outreach duties comprise 25% of incumbent's time and include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates and manages activities designed to raise awareness of the program and its offerings throughout the area of responsibility for the region.
  • Develops and implements strategic plan to collaborate with local veteran service organizations to increase adaptive recreation and family/caregiver opportunities.
  • Successfully promotes programs and events to appropriate audiences in the area of responsibility for the region.
  • Coordinates with Veterans Administration to connect veterans with available programs.
  • Identifies, communicates and coordinates with National Paralympic organizations to identify programs for recovering Service members.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of administrative management principles and techniques, Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) programs and services, CNIC programs and missions.
  • Knowledge of Federal and agency regulations, knowledge of the specific organization's programs and missions, as well as knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations. and policies related to program operations.
  • Knowledge of concepts of program management, requirement determination, policy development, evaluative and analytical processes, programs implementation and approaches to identify and resolve significant issues and problems of a unique nature.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Privacy Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Knowledge and understanding of requirements and operations of DOD and DON Wounded Warrior Adaptive Sports and recreation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and ability to plan, coordinate, and execute small and large scale Paralympic or adaptive sports/recreation type events.
  • Skill in working with individuals with serious illness, injuries and wounds causing physical and mental disabilities.
  • Skill in working with individuals who require sporting equipment modifications to participate in adaptive type physical sports/recreation type activities.
  • Skill in computer applications for administrative support functions and knowledge of variety of common administrative software, applications and web-based programs, to include but not limited to, TWMS, Defense Travel Systems (DTS), NAF travel system and Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Ability to identify problems, plan, research, collect, sort, and analyze information to formulate plan of action and milestones for the accomplishment of tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple activity schedules simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze type and scope of information and metrics required to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of program implementation
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely prepare, present, discuss and defend issues, findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team or individually with various levels of management and staff.

Must meet Federal employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms. This is a non-critical sensitive position requiring access to IT II system and /or PII. Position requires employee to obtain/maintain eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance. An Access National Agency Check Investigation (ANACI) is required via the SF86 Security Form.
