NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Operations Associate  
BUSINESS TITLE: Retail Shift Operator
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
JOB SERIES: 1101      PAY LEVEL: NF-02


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assumes full responsibility for retail operations of the facility in absence of the managers. Requisitions merchandise and ensures maintenance of adequate stock levels, proper display, price marketing, and sales merchandise.  Advises on improvements to display stocking, pricing and inventory of merchandise.

Maintains appropriate documents pertaining to security of cash, fixed assets and merchandise inventory.  Maintains combination to change safe and issues change funds.

Reviews and directs the work of employees who are engaged in the sorting, marking, pricing, and display of merchandise, keeping records thereof.  Prepares appropriate reports concerning sales activities, incidents and significant occurrences during tour of duty.  

Conducts inventories as required. Assigns and directs work of associates in the immediate shift.  Ensures that fire, safety and security conditions are maintained for the facility assigned.

Applies technical product knowledge required to set-up, assemble, display, demonstrate and sell SCUBA merchandise.

Assists customers by providing in-depth knowledge of the products and answering technical questions.  Explains product features, benefits, and differences, to satisfy customer needs.  Questions customers to establish preferences and utilizes suggestive selling techniques as appropriate.  Recommends parts, accessories, software, supplies and explains warranties.  Completes paperwork associated with the specialized area.

Issues and maintains water recreation rental equipment to include snorkeling/SCUBA equipment and kayaks.  Fills compressed air cylinders used in SCUBA diving.

May perform general housekeeping duties such as cleaning or dusting fixtures, merchandise and bathrooms.  Monitors and checks the security of premises.   Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact.  Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.  

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
    (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.)
  2. Must have a minimum of 1 year of working experience within a customer focused environment, preferably within a retail or business operations organization.
  3. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays, and night time.
  4. Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, reaching, lifting and carrying objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
  5. Must be able to complete Cash Handling Training Course before handling fund and Refresher Course once per year.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Knowledge to demonstrate technical knowledge of SCUBA products.
  2. Working experience to demonstrate the ability to build visual displays, monitor inventory levels, and perform basic opening/closing procedures and cash deposits is highly desired.
  3. Ability to observe, lead, coach, train, and mentor staff to deliver quality and timely services to customers. 
  4. Knowledge of basic math and cash handling procedures.
  5. Have a strong command of the English language to include written and oral skills.
  6. Possess excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities, and a positive attitude with a genuine desire to work in a team environment and be a team player that proactively seeks ways to help people.
  7. Knowledge in operating Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  8. Scuba diving experience preferred but not required.
