Summary
Incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southeast (CNRSE) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program under the general supervision of the designated manager. Incumbent is responsible for teaching 1-2 classes per week.
Duties
- Teaches a variety of ongoing group exercise classes such as aerobics, STEP aerobics, muscular toning and circuit training.
- Designs, choreographs and continually modifies class format.
- Monitors all class participants for safety.
- Instructs and demonstrates proper biomechanical technique for use of all strength training and cardiovascular exercise equipment. Demonstrates proper heart rate monitoring while exercising.
- Provides patrons with the knowledge of basic exercise physiology and kinesiology.
- Performs required resale operation duties including sales, cash handling and daily inventory.
- Cleans fitness center class areas daily.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- The work requires standing, sitting, walking and lifting 50 pounds or more while performing duties.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certification is required.
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

- Ability to set a positive example for fitness standards
- Ability to develop and customize various group classes.
- Ability to speak to individuals/groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modification as required.
- Ability to maintain records and reports, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively with others.
Education
- Must possess and maintain at all times a Certified Group Exercise Instructor / Trainer certificate from an approved source.
- Must aquire and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification
