Summary

A position is open for a Research Assistant in the Research Department at San Francisco Veteran Affairs Health Care System. Incumbent will be involved in medical informatics research into the cardiopulmonary health effects of exposure to air pollution and airborne hazards such as smoke from military burn pit, and the subsequent potential development of lung diseases such as asthma or COPD.

Qualifications

To qualify for this With Out Compensation (WOC) position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
  • Master's degree in the field of medical informatics, health data science, computer science, or a related area
  • Have knowledge of and publications on medical informatics and machine learning
  • Be proficient in Python/C, R, and SQL programming
  • Experience with computer-based data acquisition and analysis, and graphical presentation of data, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and statistical procedures.
  • Must be organized, demonstrate a high level of initiative, be able to keep accurate and detailed records, be willing to learn new techniques, and take ownership and responsibility of assigned duties and tasks.

Education

Master's degree in the field of medical informatics, health data science, computer science, or a related area

HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service. HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities.
