Duties

This position is located within the Semper Fit Division of MCCS and reports to the Recreation Supervisor. This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination and execution of a comprehensive base-wide programs focusing on quality-of-life advocacy, recreation, and community involvement/volunteerism, targeting active-duty service members.

Primarily responsible for developing, scheduling, organizing, publicizing, directing, and evaluating both recurring and non-recurring recreational and volunteer activities, which will involve frequent travel, managing large groups of people, and working frequent nights and weekends. Events execution will include driving large groups of people, visiting amusement parks, cooking, and leading groups while camping, leading hikes, visiting local points of interest and other outdoor recreational focused events. Incumbent will enforce established rules and regulations and ensure safety of participants during these activities.

Additional duties will include the creation of a monthly calendar of events and newsletter, building and maintaining social media presence by developing and scheduling monthly posts for the active duty and unit recreation departments across all digital channels, quarterly reporting to higher headquarters, coordinating trip sign up and cash collecting, maintaining, and reporting on government vehicles, coordinating monthly meeting agendas, writing meeting minutes and letters of appreciation. 

Leads by example and sets the tone and pace for work. Will assist employees and volunteers with work assignments, provide coaching, tutoring, and mentoring of employees. Must actively support the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action. Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste, and abuse.

Consistently provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates appropriately. Acknowledges customers with a positive attitude while providing respectful interactions. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for patron satisfaction on the quality of services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts supervisor, or proper point of contact to assist when problems arise.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Purchase Card to make necessary purchases for program needs. Provides equipment purchasing suggestions and assists in preparation of supporting data to justify new plans and budget requirement recommendations. Responsible for receiving payments and making deposits.

Serves as liaison with other organizations and local community to establish new program offerings and volunteer events to support. Provides oversight and support for athletic events, facility specialty events. Develops and administers special projects and special events within the Wellness Department. Support active-duty requests, Force Fitness Instructors (FFI), and unit recreation. Incumbent is required to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within the first three months of employment and maintain certification.

Must support other programs within Semper Fit when called upon such as the Trees for Troops, MCX Gift Wrapping Event, all Single Marine Program (SMP), Outdoor Adventures, Athletics, etc. and will administratively support active-duty recreation centers as needed. 

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook (email), Windows, and navigating the web. Must be proficient in the use of various social media platforms. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills. 

Applicants must be able to work nights and weekends. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. May perform landscaping such as grass cutting and weed removal. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Actively supports established principles of EEO and prevention of sexual harassment programs.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Three years of professional recreational work experience that demonstrates broad knowledge of administrative practices and principles and demonstrates knowledge of the goals, philosophy, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing, planning, administering, and conducting recreational activities. Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field highly desirable and may replace some work experience. Must have knowledge of Marine Corps and MCCS systems. Must possess a valid driver's license.
