Duties

  • You will engage in group, marital, family and group therapies using evidence based psychological techniques acceptable by current standards.
  • You will screen, evaluate, and provide therapy for individuals as indicated by interviews and assessment methods.
  • You will use established and accepted psychological principles, theories and methods, and current research in associated fields.
  • You will exercise own judgment in conducting initial interview to determine referral of clients, treatment for rehabilitation center, civilian treatment, or rehabilitation program.
  • You will assess individuals, couples and families, as well as determines diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • You will develop treatment plans with perpetrators of violence and victims using measurable goals and objectives.
  • You will administer clinical counseling services for clients dealing with spouse or child abuse and neglect or individuals with marital and parenting issues that may lead to domestic violence.
  • You will conduct psycho-social assessments to determine patient needs or resources.
  • You will present factual information to a Family Advocacy Case Review Committee concerning assigned cases and recommendations for treatment or disciplinary action.
  • You will interview alleged offenders and victims as part of an intake or assessment process.
  • You will interview clients as part of a comprehensive psycho-social assessment to determine the length and type of intervention necessary.
  • You will refer clients to different treatment sources or medical facilities for coordination of additional services.
  • You will coordinate case management services (e.g., safety planning, treatment planning, education services) for cases related to child and spouse abuse.
  • You will manage family advocacy cases in accordance with established protocols.
  • You will counsel domestic violence victims and offenders in the identification and awareness of early warning signs, abuse detection techniques, and preventative measures.
  • You will diagnose family violence to identify the treatment and referral needed for the victims and offenders.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conduct therapy and counseling services specifically with marital or non-marital couple and families using established psychological principles and research; complete psychosocial evaluations and risk assessments to determine diagnosis and treatment plans; develop programs which promote healthy relationships within a healthy family dynamic, and collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment and intervention programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

This position is a TIER TWO clinical care practitioner. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements as outlined in SECNAVINST 1754.8:1.

1. Possess at least a master's or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines:
a. Master's degree from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or an equivalent degree, OR
b. Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree, OR
c. Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or an equivalent degree, OR
d. Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional school and a one-year APA accredited clinical internship
2. State or U.S. territory license or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner in the fields of Licensed Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.
3. When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging, must have achieved a passing score on that examination.
4. Must have engaged in two years, full-time, post-masters supervised clinical experience.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (0185):

  • Must have successfully completed a degree in Social Work that fulfills all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. OR
  • Must have successfully completed a master's degree in Social Work with practicum.
In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:

The incumbent of this position is or may be assigned duties involving solitary contact with unmarried individuals below the age of 18.
