Duties
This position serves as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for Semper Fit. The incumbent ensures the High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) program components are provided to active duty and reserve service members aboard the base as well as fitness programming to all authorized patrons. This position reports directly to the Fitness Programs Supervisor. Majority of the time, person will be developing and implementing fitness programs to enhance force readiness. Programs will include instruction and training to individuals and groups on functional fitness, injury prevention, nutrition, proper execution of prescribed exercises and other related subjects for combat fitness. Formulates, organizes, prioritizes, and implements a structured curriculum that educates, provides a sense of achievement, aids in physical and mental health, and promotes performance to ensure the success of HITT and other fitness programming. Supports the command fitness programs and Functional Fitness Instructors. Serves as a Fitness Program Specialist that effectively coordinates with various Marine Corps agencies and military members at various levels of authority and members of military institutions. Conduct review and recommend approval or disapproval of program plans, develop new and revised operating procedures and standards. Conduct review of the administration and operation of the program and provide advice to leadership. Develops and analyzes data to be used in preparing analytical and interpretative reports and guides on programming. Provides strength and conditioning programs to large groups of Active-Duty personnel aboard the base. Supervises and organizes and conducts the full range of physical fitness assessments to include but not limited to screening and risk stratification, measurement and evaluation of an individuals aerobic capacity, body fat percentage, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, resting metabolic rate testing, VO2 max testing and functional movement screens. Provides instruction and corrective reviews to individuals as well as personalized plans to Return to Readiness and Body Composition Marines and Sailors. Provides expert instruction, consultation, and supervision on proper exercise techniques to individuals and groups, and implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive fitness program to improve aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and functional movement. Instructs patrons in proper use of a wide range of exercise equipment while training, and how to self-monitor progress for improvements, safety and well-being. Provides exercise prescription and conditioning based on individual needs, weaknesses, capabilities, interests, and goals. Plans and develops classes, workshops, and seminars, which promote strength, flexibility, and aerobic conditioning. Assists in promoting Health/Fitness related events and activities. Works as a resource and in conjunction with various command representatives in implementing physical training and programs for active-duty personnel. Researches training programs that reflect industry best practices and compliance with Marine Corps policies and regulations, to include conferences and workshops on changing technology. Researches, and benchmarks emerging trends in the physical fitness industry and observes and reports on potential impacts on the Marine Corps. Reports on performance of programs to higher authority. Assists in cleaning and maintaining exercise equipment in proper condition. Designs and implements fitness programs to promote the health and fitness of all authorized patrons. May plan and promote specialty fitness programming and events. Helps supervise group exercise and massage therapy programs, which includes hiring contracted professionals, scheduling classes, and ensuring payments are processed. Will actively support the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: May be responsible for receiving payments and making deposits. May be required to work with contract payments and renewals. May need to obtain government purchase card. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Must support other programs within Semper Fit when called upon such as the Hard Corps Race Series, Active Duty and Unit Recreation Department, Athletics, etc. Maintain confidentially when collecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and follow HIPPA regulations. Incumbent is required to obtain CPR within the first three months of employment. Must possess a valid state driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work early mornings, holidays, and weekends. This job requires mobility and flexibility working throughout the base at different locations and times. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate different exercises modalities such as TRX, kettlebells, sandbags, Olympic lifting etc. and lead group fitness classes in a variety of environments. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. Requires extended periods of coaching, standing and walking. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences such as exercise physiology, kinesiology, or other related curricula focused on fitness assessment, or physiological adaptation to exercise and exercise program design and three years of fitness coaching experience in first responder, collegiate or military environment. Able to provide proper education and training on functional fitness, injury prevention, sports nutrition, proper execution of prescribed exercises and other related subjects. Will currently have or obtain within 6 months, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Tactical Strength and Conditioning certifications (TSAC), and USAW Level 1 Coach. Skill to plan, develop, evaluate HITT program effectiveness. Knowledge of and experience in administration of health screenings, fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, conducting progressive individual fitness programs, and demonstrating proper exercise techniques sufficient to conduct comprehensive health and fitness programs. Current certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) and First Aid. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
