Minimum Qualifications GS-07
Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: established safety procedures; reporting unsafe working conditions and safety violations to proper authority; surveying workplaces, processes, or other systems for compliance with safety regulations; or reviewing safety inspection records to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
Education: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate/ graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields.
Minimum Qualifications GS-09
Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: making on-site safety survey visits and writing reports with recommendations for safety improvements; consulting with employees and management on hazards associated with work conditions and making recommendations to reduce risk; and assisting with updating regulations to reduce hazards and risk.
Education: Successful completion of a master's degree with superior academic achievement in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;

Successful completion of two years of graduate education in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields.
Minimum Qualifications GS-11
Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: providing input to safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures; and implementing programs and training to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
Education: Successful completion of a Ph. D degree with superior academic achievement in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
- OR-
Successful completion of three years of graduate education in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields.
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate/ graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: This position requires the incumbent to visit field locations and inspect working conditions. The performance inspections and investigations of mishaps do require frequent bending, standing, walking, climbing, and traveling off road. Office work is most sedentary.
Work Environment: Mixture of time in the office, time spent traveling and performing field related activities such as inspecting facilities or investigating accidents. May be exposed to a variety of climatic and travel conditions while working in the field.
