Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This position is located in the Office Supply and House Gift Shop, Office of Acquisitions Management (OAM), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The incumbent is responsible for providing all Office Supply Store and House Gift Shop customers with exceptional customer service.  Sales Specialists are the primary service providers and will assist customers shopping in the stores in a friendly, professional and proactive manner.  This position can be scheduled throughout the stores, based on the needs of the business, including but not limited to cashier, sales floor support, or delivery order support. 

This job does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Provide professional customer service and assistance to all customers; exercises sound judgment when interacting with House Members, staff, and the public.

·         Communicate effectively with customers to resolve issues.

·         Conduct sales transactions accurately and in a polite manner.

·         Stock and restock the sales floor as needed.

·         Maintain adequate knowledge of Office Supply and House Gift Shop products.

·         Ensure adequate stock levels, visual merchandising, and product labeling.

·         Assist in physical inventory of merchandise.

·         Must be detail-oriented and possess exceptional organizational skills.

·         Possess a collaborative working style with excellent interpersonal skills.

·         Able to be self-motivated and work independently as well as in coordination with various teams with time constraints. 

·         Performs miscellaneous clerical and administrative support activities as needed.

·         Perform general housekeeping duties such as dusting fixtures.

·         Performs other official duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

·         High school or GED equivalent required.

·         At least one year experience working in a customer and sales-focused environment is required.

·         Attention to detail is required.

·         Cash handling and basic register experience is strongly preferred.

·         Ability to interact with others in a professional, courteous and tactful manner.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position is located in a retail setting that is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Normal safety precautions apply. The work involves frequently assisting customers, carrying light or moderately heavy items, and standing for long periods of time. Physical exertion varies greatly in frequency depending on the level of customer activity. The incumbent must be able to meet minimum physical requirements (lifting, bending, crouching, standing, etc.).
