Duties

You will serve as a Security Specialist and be responsible for assisting the USCG Physical Security Program Manager with the development of physical security policy and implementation of program initiatives. The incumbent reviews and evaluates existing policy and assist with writing, planning, organizing establishing, publishing disseminating, and implementing new physical security policy on behalf of the USCG Physical Security Program.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serving as a physical security technical expert in developing new or proposed security policies designed to protect Coast Guard assets and personnel.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of existing physical security practices, recommending the type of control requirements, procedures, and facilities needed.
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating briefings and information exchange opportunities.
  • Performing all aspects of risk assessments in when required.
  • Preparing reports of vulnerability assessment findings and recommendations.
  • Resolving major conflicts in policy and program objectives during these visits and prepares a report of the compliance visits findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Analyzing Physical Security Programs;
  • Making recommendations to senior agency management officials on Physical Security matters;
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the established policies and procedures;
  • Developing agency-wide recommendations on the modifications and corrections of established policies and procedures.
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
