Duties

The Legislative Computer Systems (LCS) division within the Office of the Clerk is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Network Operations team.  This is a mid-senior level position where you can use your expertise to help us deploy next level cloud applications for our stakeholders.  You will be a key technical resource implementing architectural designs, managing configurations and installation of cloud-based applications, and providing operational support of cloud infrastructures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integrate and operate cloud environments for multiple applications.
  • Assist with deployment and operational support of cloud infrastructure.
  • Monitor, support and troubleshoot cloud environments for multiple applications.
  • Work with engineering, security, and operations staff to ensure cloud deployments are secure, observable, and stable.
  • Deploy and operate cloud-based systems that are secure, robust, and scalable.
  • Implement and monitor enterprise integrations such as networking and security monitoring to ensure security and stability.
  • Research cloud solutions and prototype platform and infrastructure solutions in coordination with engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with the engineering, operations, security, and enterprise teams to improve the performance, security, and cost-effectiveness of cloud applications.
  • Monitor service usage and costs and propose more efficient and cost-effective solutions.
  • Be available for on-call support as needed. Understand and support other services of LCS and assist in coordinating efforts with vendors, other departments, and users in the Clerk’s Office.

This is a hybrid position with required on-site work on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. Telework is available. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required due to the operational needs of the House.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years of experience providing operational support in Azure, AWS, or Google.
  • Have experience writing scripts in Bash or PowerShell.
  • Be familiar with DevOps methodology and tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Able to work under pressure and work after hours and weekends on as needed basis.
  • A team player with strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and resolve complex problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of all responsibilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Azure preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of Azure and Terraform.
  • Experience with implementing infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code concepts.
  • BS/BA in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
