Duties

The Legislative Computer Systems (LCS) division within the Office of the Clerk is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Network Operations team. This is a mid-senior level position where you can use your expertise to help us deploy next level cloud applications for our stakeholders. You will be a key technical resource implementing architectural designs, managing configurations and installation of cloud-based applications, and providing operational support of cloud infrastructures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Integrate and operate cloud environments for multiple applications.
Assist with deployment and operational support of cloud infrastructure.
Monitor, support and troubleshoot cloud environments for multiple applications.
Work with engineering, security, and operations staff to ensure cloud deployments are secure, observable, and stable.
Deploy and operate cloud-based systems that are secure, robust, and scalable.
Implement and monitor enterprise integrations such as networking and security monitoring to ensure security and stability.
Research cloud solutions and prototype platform and infrastructure solutions in coordination with engineering teams.
Collaborate with the engineering, operations, security, and enterprise teams to improve the performance, security, and cost-effectiveness of cloud applications.
Monitor service usage and costs and propose more efficient and cost-effective solutions.
Be available for on-call support as needed. Understand and support other services of LCS and assist in coordinating efforts with vendors, other departments, and users in the Clerk’s Office.

This is a hybrid position with required on-site work on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. Telework is available. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required due to the operational needs of the House.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of three years of experience providing operational support in Azure, AWS, or Google.
Have experience writing scripts in Bash or PowerShell.
Be familiar with DevOps methodology and tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
Able to work under pressure and work after hours and weekends on as needed basis.
A team player with strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and resolve complex problems.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of all responsibilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Azure preferred.
Sound knowledge of Azure and Terraform.
Experience with implementing infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code concepts.
BS/BA in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
