A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Federal employee who is transferring to the National Park Service from another component, bureau or Federal agency and who does not meet the conditions under 5 CFR §575.102 is not eligible for a recruitment incentive.
A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in bending, lifting, and using hand and power tools in fabricating and installing signs. As examples of typical strenuous activity, incumbent carries objects weighing 40 to 60 lbs, frequently hikes up to 8 miles daily and must be able to do so while carrying a backpack, signs and digging tools. The incumbent may spend up to nine hours a day digging holes and installing signs and posts in addition to hiking in and out of the job site.
Working Conditions: The work is performed indoors and outdoors on high, narrow, steep, and congested trails at elevations that rise approximately 1000 to 2000 feet in above sea level. The work is also performed in urban areas of high pedestrian and traffic congestion. It is performed in all types of weather and involves exposure to extreme heat, dampness, wind, dust, and noise. Sign installation involves the use of ladders and lifts which will expose the incumbent to heights sometime requiring fall protection. This job will also require the incumbent to work occasionally around and near Poison Oak and in areas where stinging insects and ticks may be a hazard.
