In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must demonstrate possession of specialized experience for GS-12 or GS-13 as required below:
Basic Requirements: (A): Demonstrated possession of a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods (e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing).
OR
(B) Possession of a combination of courses shown in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should include a full range of professional statistical work such as (including but not requiring all) (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
- 1) Managing studies that included multivariate analysis, factor analysis, and forecasting of populations; 2) Implementing improved methods of data management across datasets using a variety of software packages and routines; and 3) Presenting statistical findings clearly as main contributor to senior leadership and/or in public forums.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for these grade levels.
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
- 1) Planning statistical research projects on topics related to immigration (policy, benefits, or border security); 2) Provide recommendations on immigration policy formulation based on statistical outcomes; and 3) Identifying critical factors in research projects and determining statistical instruments that will be utilized to validate the data.
All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary.
