Summary

Duties

Come be a part of an agency where you have the opportunity to contribute to the assisting of financing the export of U.S. goods and services to international markets. EXIM is seeking students in various administrative and junior professional positions under the Pathway's Internship Program. The program is designed to integrate the student's educational studies with a wide range of clerical, administrative, and professional experiences that support the mission of EXIM. Whether you have a passion for acquiring or enhancing your administrative skills or working in a more technical area such as loan specialist or business development, EXIM has an internship for you.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Office of the Chairman and Office of External Engagement
Provides administrative, coordination, and outreach support to the Office of the Chairman and external affairs offices by assisting with stakeholder engagement activities, leadership events and travel, public outreach initiatives, preparation of briefing and correspondence materials, and general project and administrative support including scheduling, action tracking, and research.

Office of the Chief Information Officer
Provides project management support by coordinating meetings, documenting minutes and business requirements, maintaining process flow documentation, and supporting multiple projects through organized planning and communication.

Office of Communications
Supports EXIM's communications efforts by drafting and scheduling internal and external messaging, assisting with communications projects and events, creating and analyzing social media content and metrics, coordinating media and leadership messaging, and maintaining updates to EXIM's public website and intranet.

Office of Asset Management Division
Supports loan and portfolio management by assisting with financial analysis, credit and covenant monitoring, identifying early risk indicators, contributing to country and industry risk assessments, and gaining exposure to diverse sector portfolios including energy, mining, manufacturing, financial institutions, and critical minerals.

Office of Small Business Export Credit Insurance
Supports operational and analytical functions by collaborating on AI initiatives, conducting data and market analysis for Board-level transactions, assisting with CRTI screening, contributing to technical underwriting guidance, and supporting export credit insurance underwriting through evaluation of U.S. exporters and foreign buyers.

Office of Administrative Service Division
Supports acquisition and contract management by synthesizing information to inform spending decisions, applying business and contract management principles to achieve best value, interpreting regulations and contract requirements to mitigate risk, and assisting with pre- and post-award activities through documentation, data entry, and contract modifications.

Enterprise Risk Management Unit
Manages enterprise risk activities by identifying, assessing, and scoring economic, financial, operational, technological, and strategic risks; developing risk metrics and methodologies; monitoring key risk indicators; supporting governance processes; and preparing and reporting risk documentation, dashboards, and the agency's enterprise-wide risk management plan.

Office of the Business Center

Provides end-to-end support for the Go.gov travel system, including system review and testing, user training, first-line troubleshooting and support, coordination with EXIM staff and CIO, issue escalation as needed, and transition of records from Concur.

Office of Policy, Analysis and International Relations
Conducts open-source and interagency research to build and validate a Chinese export credit database, analyzes major Chinese initiatives and their implications for EXIM Bank and U.S. exporters, and presents research findings to OPAIR staff and senior leadership.

Office of the Chief Information Officer
Develops foundational cybersecurity operations skills by monitoring and analyzing security alerts, logs, and incidents using enterprise security tools, and supporting incident response, documentation, and escalation processes. Gains exposure to SOC collaboration, threat intelligence, security awareness training, and enterprise policies to understand how organizations detect, respond to, and mitigate cybersecurity risks.

Office of Transportation
Supports loan and portfolio management by assisting with originating, underwriting and structuring medium-term and long-term sovereign and asset-backed direct loan and loan guarantee financing of transportation related equipment. Such equipment includes large civil aircraft, business aircraft, helicopters, installed and spare engines, as well as locomotives, rail cars and other rail-related equipment.

Qualifications

After successful completion of the program requirements, individuals, at the agency's discretion, MAY BE converted to a term or career appointment, without further competition. However, there is no guarantee.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply for a Pathways Internship position, candidates must be:

  • A U.S. Citizen
  • Currently enrolled, on at least a half-time basis, in an accredited college/university (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • In good academic standing, maintaining a G.P.A of 2.5 or higher
  • If you are not a student enrolled in the current semester, you must submit proof of enrollment in the upcoming semester (i.e., letter from the registrar's office or acceptance letter from an accredited educational institution).
  • If you are a student who is enrolled in the current semester and your transcript does not show current enrollment or if you have completed the semester and your transcript does not show enrollment for the upcoming semester, you must submit proof of continued enrollment (i.e., letter from the registrar's office or course enrollment print out, etc.).
  • Your transcript or registrar's letter must document the educational requirements for this position.
  • If you are graduating at the end of the semester, you are not eligible for the position.
Work Schedule Requirements:
  • You must be able to work at least 24 hours per week during the academic year and full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer.
  • This position is eligible for remote and/or hybrid work schedule during the school year.
  • This position is required to work a hybrid work schedule during the summer, reporting to the office 2 days a week.
If selected, you:
  • must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
  • must maintain status as a current student;
  • must maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
  • must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term (if extended); and
  • must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term (if extended).

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the education requirements for each grade which you are requesting consideration for:

  • GS-04: Completion of 60 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
  • GS-05: Completion of 120 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
****NOTE: One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours*****

Students in an accredited post-secondary school must provide a copy of their transcripts which shows the list of courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade point average or class ranking. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable to be considered, but official transcripts are required prior to appointment.

Upon successful completion of the Pathways Internship, candidates MAY BE converted to term or career appointment, without further competition. Candidates may be converted to the grade at which they qualify. Conversion to a term or career position is not guaranteed and is subject to many factors such as funding and position availability.
