Summary

This position is located in the Legal Division, Headquarters Washington, DC office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and performs general clerical duties in support of the office.

Duties

  • Answers the telephone and is the initial office contact.
  • Personally responds to routine questions pertaining to the mission and functions of the assigned office. Handles routine requests for information of a recurring nature and refers other inquiries to appropriate staff member in assigned office.
  • Reads directives and instructional material pertaining to the functions of the assigned office in order to be aware of new, revised, or amended procedures for that office.
  • Performs basic data entry and routine report generation.
  • Participates in special projects assigned by the supervisor, team leader and/or higher-level staff within the assigned office.
  • Performs a variety of clerical and typing duties in support of the assigned office.
  • Establishes, maintains and revises a variety of files and records in connection with the work of assigned office.

After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 480 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program. However, service in the FDIC Pathways Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of experience equivalent to at least the 03-grade level or above in the Federal service.

For CG-03:

1. Experience: Applicants must have completed at least six months general experience as described below;

General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

2. Education: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study -or-

3. Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and general experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

For CG-04:

1. Experience: Applicants must have completed at least one-year general experience as described below;

General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

2. Education: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree -or-

3. Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and general experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

For CG-05:

1. Experience: Applicants must have completed at least one year of general experience equivalent to at least the 04-grade level or above in the Federal service;

General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position -or-

2. Education: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree -or-

3. Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and general experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

Education

A participant must be accepted for enrollment or are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution or accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program, Jobs Corps, AmeriCorps, and Peace Corps) on a full or half-time basis; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.5 grade point average; and remain in good academic standing.
