Summary

This is a summer position in the Curator's Office of the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C.

Duties

The Curator's Office was created by Chief Justice Warren E. Burger in 1973 to record and preserve the Court's history. Its mission is to promote a greater public understanding and appreciation of the nation's highest court. The Summer Assistant provides entry-level support to the Collections Management department. Duties include participating in an inventory of objects in the collection, cataloguing in a collections management database, assisting with a collections maintenance program, rehousing collection objects, conducting high-resolution digital imaging, and assisting with historical research.

Qualifications

The Program is competitive and draws from a highly qualified applicant pool. Previous experience with museum collections, knowledge of collections principles and practices, and experience with The Museum System (TMS) or similar software strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and computer proficiency are required.

Summer assistants are expected to work for a minimum of 10-12 weeks, not to exceed 90 days.

Education

Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree and be enrolled in a graduate degree program in Museum Studies, History, Art History, or other similar program of study.

Additional information

Summer Assistants are eligible for the SmartBenefits transit subsidy. Please note that the Court does not offer a parking benefit to Summer Assistants.
