Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

This position is located in the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Mission Support Team, Data Analytics Team (DAT) and reports directly to the Director of Data Science. This position manages a team of data scientists that work with other technical and subject matter expert teams to apply data science techniques to produce defensive results that improve the impact of DoD OIG oversight mission activities.

Duties

  • Manage staff in the research, planning, and execution of oversight projects, and administrative tasks and duties in support of direct reports which includes delegation, quality control, and critical feedback.
  • Ensure oversight standards are met and security protocols are followed by staff, along with regular updates and recommendations to the senior leaders on progress and courses of action.
  • Provide feedback on statistical/mathematical modeling decisions and interpretation.
  • Balance technical nuances across domains of data, math/stats, machine learning, and software to connect them to business context and value for DoD OIG oversight components.
  • Execution of special assignments from OIG and CIGIE Senior Leaders, working with the team to establish best practices for cooperation, and regular administrative tasks (approving training/performance reviews).

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Specialized Experience:

You must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of demonstrated experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as demonstrated experience managing or leading the development of major data engineering projects in a production environment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.

Only experience and/or education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at this grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
