Duties

  • Supervise, lead, direct, and manage all subordinate supervisors on all shifts in law enforcement, security, and operational functions within the Uniformed Police Branch.
  • Advise the Chief of Police and executive staff on all law enforcement and security matters affecting GPO assets and personnel.
  • Interview applicants for future vacancies
  • Oversee the enforcement of GPO's workplace policies, programs, and procedures
  • Manage and oversee multiple active contracts
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers, reviewing procurement contracts to ensure compliance with agency policies and requirements
  • Oversee security training requirements

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Police Officer (Captain), PQ - 0083 - 11 , you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PQ-9 level in the Federal Service or higher that includes:
1). supervising, directing, and managing police officers,
2). preparing reports that address loss, theft, incident, attendance, activity, assignment, fire, and/or inventory, and
3). Oversee subordinates in the execution of duties as prescribed by laws, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (08/11/2025) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used or this grade level.

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability, Secret clearance. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
