Summary

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia.

Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Front Office of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. As the Chief, Public Affairs Officer, you will provide oversight to designing, conducting, and managing the public, media, and information programs for the United States Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, which is the largest most complex and case-intensive office in the United States.

Typical work assignments will include:
- Establishes and maintains relationships with the public, news and information media, key officials, agency stakeholders, industry representatives, and community groups in order to communicate and disseminate program information that results in the understanding of the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia's mission and activities.
- Collaborates with public affairs specialists in providing expert management advise to the United States Attorney, executive staff, and Department staff on community relations activities affected by operating programs of the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia.
- Provides oversight in developing a consistent, dynamic, and effective communication plan designed to educate the public about the United States Attorney's Office's initiatives, programs, and operations.
- Produces and maintains appropriate written and other communication products, such as: website, social media communications, summaries, brochures, press releases, speeches and articles reporting on the district's activities, priorities and achievements.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To qualify as a GS-14, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: planning, organizing, preparing, and executing complex and diverse communication strategies to carry out public affairs activities and to promote programs, products, and/or services of an organization; independently writing, editing and preparing communication materials (news releases, fact sheets, brochures, blogs, web pages, etc.) related to crime, law enforcement actions, legislation, trials, court decisions, developments in the financial market, scientific research, or technology; interacting with the public and news media on behalf of an organization; maintaining effective communication with management, public, media and government officials.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
