Summary

THIS IS AN AIR FORCE NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 SUPERVISORY METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN (MI 110th OSS), Position Description Number NGD1816000 and is part of the MI 110 Airlift Wing, Michigan Air National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POISITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP***

This position is located in the Air National Guard Reconnaissance Wing, Operations Group, Operations Support Squadron, Weather Flight. The primary purpose is to direct the performance of a group of Meteorological Technicians who provide meteorological services, weather observations and forecasts in support of world-wide Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to ensure mission effectiveness, resource protection, and flight safety. The base level of work supervised is at the GS-09 level.

1. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the assigned technicians, ensuring that the advice and assistance provided complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Develops goals and objectives that integrate unit and overall
meteorological/weather program objectives.

2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

3. Provides technical guidance and instructions to lower graded fulltime technicians and traditional military employees. Solves a variety of meteorological problems with other production personnel.

4. Provides weather briefings for supported aircrews in person or by telephone or closed circuit television. Modifies forecasts developed by other activities to provide information on exact conditions expected to be encountered by the aircraft for projected timeframe for the area of operation.

5. Observes, encodes, records, disseminates and evaluates weather observations. Observes weather phenomena, encodes and records the observation following established instructions and guides using computer-based systems in weather station.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Air National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the Michigan Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
  • Must have a valid civilian driver's license.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Months Required: 36

Experience, education, or training that provided a familiarity with weather regulation, policies, requirements, and standards. Experience developing and operating systems involved with data collection, verification, information dissemination, observation, and forecasting services and systems. Applying principles and procedures of various meteorological models and forecasting techniques. Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating numerous meteorological and oceanographic charts, planning, organizing and coordinating work.
