Duties

Acts as a senior team leader responsible for structuring complex solutions and delivering IT services. Provides technical guidance and architectural recommendations for designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining highly available, scalable, and secure applications, systems, and services. Provides long-range strategic planning activities for the Senate in the areas of modern IT systems and services. Monitors the impact of technological developments; identifies emerging technologies and scopes potential Senate utility. Leads product evaluations and technical studies and task forces; directs pilot testing programs; analyzes new technology for its impact on the Senate environment; tests new releases on Senate supported platforms; develops product configuration standards for use in the Senate environment; recommends strategic direction for the Senate. Creates and reviews system architecture; analyzes system requirements and ensures that systems will be effectively integrated with current applications. Acts as a technical leader and mentor to implementation teams and collaborates across the organization to provide leadership and guidance on technical solutions; collaborates across organizations in the creation of valuable technology solutions.

  • Develop proof of concept applications to validate proposed solutions.
  • Continuously review and evaluate the effectiveness of solutions and propose changes as needed.
  • Contract(or) oversight.
  • Assist with the establishment and adoption of technology architecture standards and methodologies.
  • Write policies.
  • Consult with/lead other Senate teams.
  • Write RFPs.
  • Review and evaluate responses to RFPs.

Required Work Experience

  • 8-10 years’ experience as a lead software engineer and demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • High aptitude for continuously learning new skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Project management skills, including developing project plans, timetables and staff assignments.
  • Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) certification.
  • Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise Specialist certification.
  • Experience using analytics platforms such as Splunk or Vyopta to inform data driven decisions.

Working Conditions

  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

Security Clearance

  • This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a  Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer information systems.
