Duties

Under the direction of the Athletics Director, serves as a Youth Sports Coordinator with overall responsibility for the operation, integration, coordination, and oversight of a comprehensive Youth Sports Program, to include a variety of team and individual athletic events, games, tournaments, skill-building clinics, and outreach opportunities. Ensures that the different services sports calendars do not conflict thus providing a greater opportunity for the military youth to be active in sports the entire calendar year. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs a series of community relations sports events between the local community and the youth of the active duty military, civilians and their dependents be conducted on a regular basis.  Tournaments will typically be offered in the sports of Baseball, Basketball and Soccer.

Establishes policy, procedures and SOPs with operational assistance and reviews against developed standards for the overall Youth Sports Program to support program goals and continuously evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities and varies the program as necessary. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and leads the accountability for program quality and execution, staff performance, parent engagement, child safety and well-being, and climate for child and youth development through sports.

Monitors program participation and formulates plans based on measurement, evaluation, and feedback. Responsible for providing guidance and leadership to the various recreation activities and participants, modifying, adapting, expanding, or otherwise changing plans and procedures for such activities as developments require. 

Responsible for the Youth Sports Fees and Charges collection program ensuring that fee's for the program are properly collected Responsible for training the staff at each Fitness Center in the proper paperwork procedures to ensure quick and efficient processing of the Youth Sports registration forms, answering patron inquiries, age verifications, scheduling activities, and promulgating information to their local community. Responsible for coordinating activities to ensure registrations, practices, and games are conducted smoothly throughout the year.

Responsible for the development of a broad volunteer program which includes recruiting, training, certifying, and managing coaches and officials for various sports. Ensures all volunteers are trained, monitored, and utilized per Marine Corps guidance, including training coaches using the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines. Ensures that the coaches are properly registered with NYSCA, processes their certifications, and provides them with all the necessary support materials. Monitors coaches to ensure compliance with all Semper Fit Youth Sports and NYSCA policies and guidelines and that their performance remain satisfactory and create a positive influence for the youth in the program.  Maintains a working relationship with NYSCA to stay abreast of developments in the field of youth sports.

Ensures that the Headquarters Marine Corps mandated background checks be completed as required during each scheduled season. Establishes procedures on the maintenance of confidential records on each coach. Reviews and evaluates coach's conduct on a regular basis and takes the appropriate disciplinary actions when required. Conducts coaches' orientations to outline responsibilities when working with children in sports, such as philosophy, skills and drills, practice organization, game rules, code of ethics, parent communication, and emergency procedures. Conducts assessment of volunteer program effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, or evaluate youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth.

2. Must have knowledge of nationally recognized requirements (i.e., NAYS, NYS, NYSCA) to recruit, train, and manage coaches for various sports, and the ability to successfully complete this training program to provide certified training for youth sports coaches.

3. Must have experience with automated data processing procedures and administrative correspondence.

4. Must have experience providing customer service to a diverse customer base. Must be able to work independently with little to no direct supervision. Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45lbs independently (objects over 45lbs with assistance), walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.

5. Must obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain certification as a Youth Sports Administrator through the National Alliance of Youth Sports. Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR/First Aid. Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a government license. Appointment and continued employment is subject to a favorable Tier 1 investigation with extra childcare coverage 8.
