Summary

The position is located in Facilities Management Division (AFM), Operations Department of the National Gallery of Art. The purpose of this position is to repair, inspect, operate, service, troubleshoot and maintain building mechanical equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating systems, and necessary action to restore any electrical, plumbing or control (BAS) systems when an emergency breakdown occurs.

Duties

The incumbent is:

  • Inspection of equipment functions such as recording pressures and temperatures.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of Gallery air washes to include pumps, fans, coils filters, valves etc.
  • Emergency or scheduled repairs on various mechanical systems which support Gallery operations.
  • Cleaning and painting of Gallery equipment rooms to maintain organization of all systems equipment.

 Physical Requirements: Good physical condition is required including full use of the senses including hearing, sight, smell, and touch.  Ability to climb ladders, read gauges, crawl, bend, stoop, crouch, and lift weights up to 100 pounds.  May be subject to: prolonged standing, extended walking on concrete floors and climbing on stairwells and ladders.  Ability to exert light to moderate effort in turning valves and operating controls.  Ability to move and stack equipment and supplies, as well as tanks and other equipment.  Ability to do heavy lifting of machinery parts in order to dismantle or inspect equipment.
