Summary

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Deputy Assistant Sergeant at Arms. Duties

Provides leadership, direction, and development to a staff who work in support of the U.S. Senate in the U.S. Capitol. Ensures that the Senate is supported by a high-quality, highly motivated, professional workforce.  Ensures cross training of staff, and succession planning for all managers and their staff.  Participates in short and long-range planning efforts and supports special events such as Inaugurations and state funerals. Develops and supports plans for emergencies, and continuity of operations responsibilities for the divisions under their direction.  The ability to lead during a crisis is a job requirement. Assists with the development of budgets, priorities, policies, and procedures, and manages the impact to stakeholders ensuring that customer service and customer satisfaction are prioritized.  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Five to eight years of senior level management experience.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • The position requires the ability to plan for emergencies including continuity of operations, the ability to lead in a crisis; and the ability to solve problems before they impact operations.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships within the SAA, and with Senate staff and other stakeholders.  
  • Senior level experience leading a front facing organization in a high-profile, high-volume environment.
  • Senior level experience leading and managing a large, diverse team and building a positive team culture.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Senate gained through previous employment as a senior staff member is desired.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays,
    and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

Security Clearance

  • This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree.
