Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facility Operations Division, Elevator Branch. The selectee will serve as an Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) Leader.  Will be a working leader responsible for getting work started, ensuring that materials and tools are available, and reporting to the supervisor on status and progress of overall work operations.

Duties

This position is to fill evening shift under 1pm -9:30pm.

This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:

As a working leader, the employee will be responsible for the following functions and duties:

  • Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group; working along with other workers and setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; ensuring that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained; obtaining necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift; maintaining current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives (for example, technical orders to be able to answer questions of other workers); seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been followed; urging or advising other workers to follow supervisor’s instructions and to meet deadlines; reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays; and answering supervisors’ questions on overall work operations and problems. 
  • Interprets, diagnoses and responds to the full spectrum of elevator operational problems, e.g., power buildup problems in multi-voltage generator systems, changes in platform leveling, high maximum elevator speeds or sudden stops or changes in elevator speed. Applies trade knowledge of control circuits such as parallel, reverse, self-holding, dynamic and suicide and utilizes test procedures and oscilloscope, signal generator, recording meter, event recorder or thermograph instruments to test live circuits and components to diagnose malfunctions and decide on the remedy. Reads and responds to mechanical information from engineering and inspection reports including technical directions of engineering, event readings or recordings and oscilloscope waveforms.
  • Interprets electronic diagrams and specifications of complete elevator bank systems. Evaluates, adjusts and repairs new systems and invents processes to handle unexpected defects. Determines the need to modify test devices. Develops alterations to detailed schematics and maintenance procedures. Organizes efforts with professional and technical workers on changes to equipment and its functioning qualifications.
  • Adjusts complex operational systems. Examples include new data transmission systems with analog-to-digital converters, pulse generators, multiplexers, timing circuits, receivers, etc. Troubleshoots electronic systems for errors for which there is little documentation. Communicates with engineers and manufacturer's representatives to examine, adjust and develop changes, replacements or improvements to equipment to eliminate malfunctions and/or simplify repairs or operational modifications. Uses automated test equipment to recognize deficiencies in the programming or unit to correct issues.
  • Troubleshoots errors in electronic systems. Corrects and/or repairs integrated digital control systems (Motion Control Engineering and Otis). This includes IMC Performa, I-Control, I-Box and IMC SCR.
  • Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
